Fulbright Ambassador Presentation in STEM field: Carborane-based Ionics and Other Projects at Universidad de Buenos Aires
Dr. Anna Larsen
Ithaca College
From: 11:00 AM To: 12:00 PM
Thursday, Mar 27, 2014
Burns Lecture Hall, Keck Science Center
Dr. Anna Larsen, Associate Professor of Chemistry in Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, will facilitate a presentation describing her experiences as a Fulbright scholar in Buenos Aires, Argentina in Fall of 2010. While in Argentina, Dr. Larsen collaborated with the organometallic group of Professor Fabio Doctorovich of the Universidad de Buenos Aires on the research tackling structure elucidation of ionic carborane-based materials (among other projects). Dr. Larsen will present a talk describing the Fulbright Scholar grant and its impact on her work at her home institution. At the end of her presentation, there will be time for questions from the audience. Anna will also address the elements composing the Core Fulbright Scholar program for the U.S. While Anna's presentation will primarily speak to her own experience as a Fulbright Scholar and alumna, she will also be able to answer questions about the general application process, particularly for specialists in STEM sciences. The Fulbright Scholar Program sends more than 1,200 U.S. scholars and professionals each year to teach or conduct research in more than 125 countries. These scholars have established new global programs and engaged in collaborative work with colleagues around the world. Scholars, such as Dr. Larsen return to their campuses with new perspectives on their fields and fresh ideas for further international participation. This presentation will be of particular interest to scholars wishing to expand their research and professional linkages. Dr. Larsen is a member of the Fulbright Ambassador Program, which identifies, trains, and engages a select group of Fulbright Scholar alumni to serve as representatives for the Fulbright Program at campus workshops and academic conferences across the United States.
