Fellowships and Scholarships

Undergraduate Level Opportunities

What are fellowships? National fellowships are competitive awards that provide remarkable experiences and support for students interested in study abroad, graduate study, careers in public service, international affairs, teaching, scientific research, engineering, journalism and healthcare. At Keck, we have a few staff and faculty members who are available to assist you with STEM specific fellowships and scholarships. However, each of the 3Cs has a representative who can help you further explore:

Goldwater Scholarships:  www.act.org/goldwater
Purpose: Provide a continuing source of highly qualified individuals to those fields of academic study and research; encourage advanced study and promote career paths in science, math or engineering
Criteria: Current sophomore or junior student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career in:

  • Math
  • Engineering
  • Natural Sciences

***One of the best indicators for demonstrated potential is Research experience….
Awards can be approx. $7,500 per year…

Morris K. Udall Scholarships: https://www.udall.gov/

Purpose: Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics

Awarded in three categories:

  • Demonstrated commitment to a career related to the environment
  • Native American or Alaskan Native with demonstrated commitment to tribal policy
  • Native American or Alaskan Native with demonstrated commitment to Native health

Criteria: Rising sophomore or junior student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career in environmental preservation or related field. Awards can be $5K per award.

Graduate-Level Opportunities

NSF Graduate Research Fellowshipwww.nsf.gov
Purpose: Identify and fund work at the frontiers of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering with the hopes of a significant career contribution to the Sciences and Engineering fields.
Criteria: Can apply as a Senior or Recent Graduate for funding after Graduation in a Graduate level Research-based Master’s or Doctoral Program. Awards are $36K-$65K over the course of three years.

Churchill Scholarships: www.winstonchurchillfoundation.org
Purpose: Provides an opportunity to pursue graduate studies in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences at the University of Cambridge in England.  One of the newer colleges at the University of Cambridge, Churchill College was built in tribute to Winston Churchill, who in the years after the Second World War, recognized the growing importance of science and technology for prosperity and security. Churchill College focuses on the sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
Criteria: Seniors or recent graduates who are U.S. citizens, 19-26 years old, with excellent academic records, allows for research grant approx $44k-50K
