Marya Ornelas, Pitzer ’20, wins prestigious Goldwater Scholarship

Marya Ornelas, Pitzer ’20, has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship; she is the first student in Keck to win the award in three years. The Goldwater Foundation awards the highly competitive scholarships to undergraduate STEM students of exceptional promise for a career in research, which Marya has shown through highly successful research experiences in both Keck Science (working with Aaron Leconte) and University of California-Irvine (with Jennifer Prescher). After college, Marya plans on pursuing a PhD, where she hopes to apply synthetic biology to create programmable biological therapeutics.
