Under direction of the Office Manager, the intern will work with contracted dentists on a variety of levels. REQUIREMENTS: Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong PC, MS Office, and Internet skills. Participants will hear alumni share their personal stories of success. Current dentistry and dental hygiene students will be available to share their personal journey to dental school, answer questions and admissions advice will be given. Apply April 1 through July 1. The USC Mobile Clinic program is an important resource in addressing the oral health needs of children from urban and rural low-income families in California, as well as a valuable educational resource for dental and dental hygiene students from UCLA and students from all of the dental hygiene and dental assistant programs in Southern California. A variety of volunteers, including family members, pre-dental students, and dental assisting students join USC students and assist them with patient flow, record keeping and sterilization of instruments.

The dental section of the BFC is the only free dental clinic in Northern California providing free simple extractions, fillings and cleanings. This service takes new patients on a drop-in lottery basis only. For new patients, the procedure is to arrive 30 minutes prior to the opening time and to fill out a form for placement into the lottery. The Dental Section of the Berkeley Free Clinic is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis. You will be notified when the next training cycle is determined. Since 1989, the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (CWRU) has conducted a six-week summer program designed to assist capable and highly motivated underepresented students in preparing for a career in medicine and in dentistry. The Case Summer Medical Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is free and is designed to enrich students who are completing their freshman or sophomore year of college and are considering professional careers in medicine, dentistry and other health professions. SMDEP targets students from communities that are historically underrepresented in medicine and dentistry: African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and others who are economically disadvantaged. Operation Smile is an international medical charity whose global network of thousands of credentialed medical volunteers from more than 80 countries is dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children from more than 60 countries. We’ve provided more than 220,000 free surgical procedures for children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. To build long-term sufficiency in resource-poor environments, we train doctors and local medical professionals in our partner countries so they’re empowered to treat their local communities. The purpose of the program is to provide a research enrichment experience and some exposure to clinical medicine or dental medicine. The faculty develop and make available suitable project descriptions from which students may select a research opportunity. The student will meet with the faculty sponsor and develop a research protocol in June. The student will commit approximately 30+ hours per week for the project and will work with the faculty sponsor or his/her designates. Approximately 8-10 hours per week have been set aside for clinical experientials and other enrichments. A $2,500 – 3,000 salary is provided. Assistance in locating housing is also provided.
